The Oregon Ducks had their first practice of the spring, and there's plenty for Ducks fans to sink their teeth into. The roster will have plenty of new talent all over the field, something that head coach Dan Lanning pointed to as an encouraging sign for this year's roster.
Aside from answering some questions about the general impressions of the team, Lanning was also asked about the Spring Game, which seems to be a dying tradition because of the transfer portal. Lanning clearly has no intention of bringing the Spring Game to an end.
"It's the best way for us to get better," Dan Lanning said about the Spring Game. "We're absolutely gonna have a Spring Game, play football at the Spring Game, you know, as you mentioned, there's new faces. I think that's a great opportunity to create — you know, and Autzen is one of those places where we have a spring game, and It's a game day environment. Creating that environment for those players, the competition that exists in that, and just just our fans, what they bring to the environment is a huge piece. So for me, it's the right way to cap off a spring. And as long as I'm here, we'll be doing Spring Games."
Lanning sees the Spring Game as a crucial piece of the puzzle when creating a tone of competition, as well as a great opportunity for the players, especially new ones, to get into a game-day setting at Autzen Stadium before the summer. It sure seems like Lanning's words can be taken at face value, and that the Ducks plan on continuing their Spring Games into the future.
