The Indianapolis Colts seem to be approaching an offseason, with improving their defense believed to be a primary focus.

They are moving towards a new defensive philosophy, which creates some pretty glaring needs. One of which would be the possibility of adding a playmaker in the middle of the defense who can do it all. A new A to Z Sports mock draft has them doing just that by landing the ultimate chess piece for Lou Anarumo's defense.

Colts land Alabama Jihaad Campbell in a new 2025 NFL Mock Draft

"Alabama's Jihaad Campbell was one of the scouting combine's biggest winners. Even before he put on a show during the on-field events, people around the league shared how highly they viewed the linebacker. He has a unique skill set that allows him to attack ball carriers, drop back in coverage, and rush the passer. If the Colts want to give Lou Anarumo the best chance for success this season, giving him a weapon like Campbell would go a long way."

New A to Z Sports Mock Draft

Some may push back on using a first-round pick on a linebacker, but Jihaad Campbell's skill set makes him much more than your typical LB. He has the ability and athleticism to drop back and coverage, attack a ball carrier in the backfield, and even blitz at a high level. Anarumo's scheme is built on a foundation of making offenses uncomfortable and wondering what could happen next. Campbell's diverse skill set would help him do just that, and it may be the perfect system for him at the pro level.

It also helps that the Colts have a need at LB this offseason. 2024s starter E.J. Speed is set to become a free agent. And after some of the drama surrounding the LB room this past season, many fans are hoping the team moves in a different direction this offseason. I think Campbell would be a better fit playing next to Zaire Franklin, along with soon-to-be second-year LB Jalen Carlies. So, if the Colts went this route, I think it could lead to the fanbase and the team being equally on board with what the move means for the trajectory of the offseason.
