After basically being told no by the Los Angeles Rams when the Jacksonville Jaguars wanted to interview Nate Scheelhaase, they went right back to the drawing board. Working under an offensive mind like Liam Coen, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator now head coach of the Jags, is a job many young assistants in the league would die to have.
So, we knew it wouldn't take long. But, only an hour or so after the report about Scheelhaase came out, we knew who the Jaguars newest offensive coordinator was going to be. Coen was able to go out and get one of the more coveted young guys in the league who had a fantastic year in his role in the NFC.
There are a bunch of guys around the league who were considered for the job, interviewed, or rumored to have drawn interest from the Jaguars. But, they quickly let everyone know who their guy was.
Jaguars hire Grant Udinski as offensive coordinator
Grant Udinski is the new offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started his coaching career at Baylor University, then followed head coach Matt Rhule to the Carolina Panthers as an assistant. In 2022, he joined the Minnesota Vikings, where he served in various roles, including assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant offensive coordinator.
His work with the Vikings saw quarterback Sam Darnold reach new career highs, helping the team rank ninth in scoring in 2024, and resurrecting Darnold's career this past season.
Udinski was appointed as the Jaguars' offensive coordinator at the age of 29. So, he still has some things to learn. Before this role, he was interviewed by multiple teams like the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for similar positions. Luckily his age won't matter much. This is Coen's system, Coen's offense, and I can imagine that Coen will be calling the plays.
Udinski will still serve his purpose, though.
