The Jacksonville Jaguars are about to do what the fan base has been asking for years now. Finally, they have a shot at having a different general manager, one whose name isn't Trent Baalke. Nothing against the guy personally, but the fan base has frankly been fed up with the decisions Baalke has made for some time now. It was time to move on, the only issue is, that it was time to move on a few years ago.
Baalke has had an issue drafting talented players for some time now. He hasn't been able to put it together yet and it's hindered them at times from continuing to move forward within their initial rebuild. And, he has made some significantly bad decisions when it comes to free agency and even personnel decisions.
So, yes, it was time to move on, and now the Jaguars are almost done with their search for a general manager. They are now one step closer after having an interview with Josh Williams on Tuesday.
Jaguars interview Josh Williams for GM job
Josh Williams is a top candidate for NFL general manager roles, currently working as the Director of Scouting and Football Operations for the San Francisco 49ers. He joined the 49ers in 2011 as a scouting assistant and has since moved up through various positions, including area scout and national scout, before taking on his current role in May 2024.
His responsibilities include overseeing pro and college scouting, aiding in player development, and helping with contract negotiations, demonstrating his wide-ranging skills in football operations. With his extensive experience, Williams has become a well-respected figure in NFL front offices, especially for teams seeking leaders with strong scouting and operational expertise.
Williams has been identified as a future GM through his participation in the NFL's Front Office & General Manager Accelerator Program, which prepares promising candidates for executive positions. In February 2025, he interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars' open general manager position, making him one of the first candidates considered, which shows his rising profile.
His background as a wide receiver at Columbia University and his steady career progression in the NFL highlight his readiness to take on a general manager role and connect with players on a personal level.
