Notre Dame football beginning their recruiting push for yet another son of a future NFL Hall of Famer at a big position of need

Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep should be extremely familiar to Notre Dame football fans at this point. The school has been very good to the program in recent years.

The 2026 recruiting class might once again feature some Brophy flavor, with Notre Dame extending an offer to wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald. For those who don’t follow Brophy too closely, it’s a school that features the sons of a lot of former NFL players. In this case, Devin is the son of Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald.

His father, who was also a wide receiver, spent the entirety of his 17-year NFL career with the Cardinals. During that stretch, Fitzgerald managed to haul in 1,432 receptions for 17,492 yards and 121 touchdowns. Fitzgerald was selected to 11 Pro Bowls, and has cemented a place in the NFL Hall of Fame in the future.

The younger Fitzgerald is considered to be a four-star recruit according to Rivals, who have him pegged as the No. 56 wide receiver and No. 4 player in the state of Arizona for the 2026 recruiting class. All other major recruiting platforms have him rated as a three-star, currently sitting as the No. 467 overall player and No. 77 wide receiver on the 247Sports Composite ranking.

The 6-2, 195-pound pass catcher has seen his offer list continue to expand. Some of the notable programs that have offered him include the Fighting Irish, Michigan, Florida State, UNC, NC State, Arizona State, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Minnesota, Iowa State, Washington State, Vanderbilt, Duke, Boston College, Arizona, and Stanford among others.

As a junior, Fitzgerald put together a strong season for Brophy Prep. In 13 games, he hauled in 52 receptions for 720 yards and nine touchdowns. Fitzgerald’s combination of size, catch radius, and ball skills are what pop most when you turn on his film last season.

Behind the scenes, wide receivers coach Mike Brown and Notre Dame have been recruiting Fitzgerald for some time. This isn’t the first contact they’ve had, not by a long shot. There appears to be heavy interest on both sides, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see Fitzgerald in the class when all is said and done.

The 2026 recruiting class is a huge one for Coach Brown, and let’s hope this offer isn’t an indicator that things aren’t trending well with Texas stars Kaydon Finley and Brayden Robinson.
