The Florida Gators are one of the more interesting teams this year in the College Football landscape. After finishing the season red hot with four-consecutive wins, the Gators are a popular pick to make the College Football Playoff.
Head coach Billy Napier is in win-now mode after not seeing sustained success throughout the beginning of his career at Florida. Making the College Football Playoff will go a long way to securing Napier's job.
What will the Gators season look like? We made four bold predictions for the Gators' season.
DJ Lagway wins Heisman Trophy
We've seen the discussions before. Lagway's ability as a quarterback is tremendous, and he's at the top of just about every list for Heisman Trophy candidates. It's exactly how it should be, especially with the talent that Lagway has. His dynamic arm and ability to run the ball will be on full display, as the latter wasn't something that he could utilize last year due to his severe hamstring injury.
It would also be the second time that a sophomore quarterback for the Gators wins the Heisman Trophy, as Tim Tebow did just that back in 2007. Lagway would also be the fourth-ever Heisman Trophy Winner with Steve Spurrier (1966) and Danny Wuerffel (1996) having also won the award.
Gators win 10 games, make College Football Playoff
The schedule for the Gators isn't the easiest in the SEC. They will have to travel to LSU and Ole Miss, while also hosting Texas and playing Georgia in Jacksonville. It might be difficult on paper, but the way the Gators improved at the end of last season, they were in a great spot.
The biggest games the Gators have are against Texas at home and a neutral site game against Georgia. Both of which will have the Gators coming off a bye week, which is a huge advantage. Nothing is a guarantee for the Gators, but they are in great shape to win 10 games.
Dallas Wilson leads Gators in receiving
When the Gators landed Wilson right before Christmas in a post-early signing day flip from Oregon, it was huge. It bolstered their recruiting class, and he proved it right away by setting spring game records with 10 receptions for 195 yards. He also had two touchdowns, including the one below.
Wilson has the combination of size, speed, and athleticism that you want to see from a modern-day receiver. With Lagway set to take a step forward, Wilson can be the guy. Yes, he will need to overtake the likes of J. Michael Sturdivant and Eugene Wilson, but Wilson has that kind of potential.
Caleb Banks gets picked top 10 in NFL Draft
When you think of the Gators, defensive line has been one of their better position groups. They consistently send talent into the National Football League and the next guy has already proven himself to be a top-end talent.
Banks was a dominant force last year with 7.0 sacks next to nose tackle Cam Jackson. There were rumors that he was set to go top-50 in the NFL Draft this past April, but he chose to return to school instead. With Tyreak Sapp also an emerging force on the defensive line, Banks could easily make that leap to be a top pick in the NFL Draft.
