Oklahoma Sooners already have one of the best duos in the country, and the two players have yet to play a snap together

Everyone who follows the Oklahoma Sooners football program can all agree that 2024 was not the season any of us thought it would be. They are not happy or proud of anything that took place, and rightfully so.
Now, you can say that they should be proud of the defense and the way that unit played in 2024 because you should be proud of it. You can make the argument that the Sooners had the best defense in the entire SEC, but on paper, it didn't look like that because of the awful situations the offense put them in time and time again.
In 2025, they have revamped everything you can possibly imagine. They have their big five-star offensive lineman who could possibly play as a true freshman, added some pieces on the offensive line, completely changed the wide receiver room outside of a few guys, added John Mateer and his offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, and even made some changes to the RB room.
This team is in a much better position in terms of their roster than they were a year ago when you look at the offense. Yes, some guys have transferred out that we have actually seen have some success, but every player that has transferred has been replaced by someone you could argue is better.
But, one of the things not being talked about enough this offseason has to be the elite duo they have in Mateer and Jaydn Ott. In fact, they are the best duo in the country in terms of Pro Football Focus rating, and they haven't even played a snap yet.
PFF has rated Mateer's overall 2024 season at 84.1, and Ott's at 90.1, which is their highest-rated QB/RB duo in the country. That's huge for what the Sooners had last year compared to this year.
2026 4-star running back committed to Oklahoma Sooners just got a very enticing offer from SEC foe
That would be a crazy flip.
