Heading into the 2024 college football season, many expected South Dakota State quarterback Mark Gronowski to have one final campaign under the spotlight, and leave FCS football as one of the more decorated signal callers in recent memory. A vital part of South Dakota State's ascension to the elite of the level the last couple of seasons, including being a part of two national championship teams, he had been a tremendous ambassador of the program.

In 55 games with the Jackrabbits, Gronowski threw for 10,309 yards and 93 touchdowns. The Illinois native also ran for another 1,767 yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground, while also completing 64 percent of his passes and only throwing 20 interceptions. Gronowski has been a dual threat weapon, and a symbol of excellence across the level.

It was reported a couple of days ago by ESPN college football senior writer Pete Thamel that Gronowski was expected to use his last year of eligibility, and enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. That became official on Tuesday when Gronowski announced that decision on X. It’s a tough day for South Dakota State fans, but one lucky program is going to receive the services of one of the top signal callers in the country.

The demand for Gronowski is reportedly expected to be massive. That might include Washington State, where former South Dakota State head coach Jimmy Rogers just took over as the head man in charge. There’s no guarantee that will be the landing spot, with a long list of schools already demonstrating interest.

We have already seen a ton of transfer portal signal callers select their destinations. There aren’t a ton of obvious landing spots, but you can bet there is a lot of opportunity out there. The landing spot for Gronowski, and what it means for the team’s fortunes and his own draft stock will be something to navigate closely.
