Following the end of the season, DC Jim Knowles started receiving major interest and the Buckeyes will have to fight to keep him. Oklahoma, Penn State, and Notre Dame are said to be teams in the mix.
The bigger issue for Ohio State is the tampering that is reportedly going on with their most important player.
According to On3, there is a team out there that has $4.5 million on the table for star WR Jeremiah Smith to transfer there. Additionally, a team out there is offering WR Carnell Tate seven figures to transfer.
Smith just put together 1,315 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in 16 games played. It was a remarkable freshman season for Smith where he proved he was the best wide receiver in the country from Year 1.
Ohio State knew that Smith was going to be a major problem from the minute he stepped on campus. Smith was the No. 1 player in the class of 2024 for a reason and he showed that during the season. The Florida native had four touchdowns total over four College Football Playoff games.
The Buckeyes are set to roll out a new quarterback next year, likely Julian Sayin. Having Smith out there will be key for his development. Expect Ohio State to match anything they need to regarding Smith, as they’ve seen firsthand how important he is.
This is reality in the college football landscape now. With NIL and pay to play, teams are going to be using the offseason as a ‘free agency’ of sorts. Teams are going to be forced to play defense, just like Ohio State is right now.
Ohio State looks to be fighting off multiple major college football programs to keep DC Jim Knowles
Not ideal for the Buckeyes.
