The vibes are great in Columbus, Ohio with the Buckeyes fresh off of a National Championship win against Notre Dame on Monday night.
Ohio State defeated Notre Dame, 34-23, to bring Ryan Day his first National Championship. Day is now 70-10 as a head coach and his resume is impressive.
Still, Day has been under immense pressure at Ohio State. The National Championship completely halted that pressure, but it was once there. The four straight losses to Michigan was the big reason and the recent one in November was the worst of them. Following that loss, fans were calling for Day’s Job. Of course, the Buckeyes went on a run to win it all from there.
Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer isn’t too fond of the fans who call out Day on social media for his shortcomings.
"I coached a long time and a lot has been made of it and Coach Day and the pressures of coaching at a place like Ohio State," Meyer said recently on "The Triple Option" podcast. "I made the comment that that is not gonna change. The thing that has got to change and has changed is the idiots on social media that don't sign their name to stuff."
That is quite the statement from Meyer, who is well aware of the pressure that comes with being the head coach at Ohio State. Meyer never lost to Michigan and set the standard for Day, who has not been able to beat Michigan as of recently.
Ohio State just completed the most impressive run you have ever seen to win it all. Tennesse was a solid SEC team and Ohio State blew them out after the loss to Michigan. Blowing out Oregon and getting revenge there was big for the program.
Texas seemed to be the team best equipped to compete with the Buckeyes. Ohio State gave the Longhorns a hard punch late and won by two touchdowns. Notre Dame couldn’t completely match up with the Buckeyes.
With the recent run that Day’s team completed, the doubters will surely be quiet on social media. The Ohio State head coach has more than proven for the foreseeable future.
