Ohio State needs a win on Saturday against Tennessee and a run in the College Football Playoff to help everyone forget about what happened against Michigan to end the regular season.
A fourth straight loss to Michigan has left a bad taste for the Buckeyes and it should. Ryan Day has consistently had his team come up short against the Wolverines.
Ohio State quarterback Will Howard had a pretty firm statement on Monday about the only thing the Buckeyes can do now.
“We can't go out any other way than winning it all,” Howard said Monday. “That's the way that I see it. I want this for this team so bad.”
Howard didn’t play especially well against Michigan in the only battle he will have with the Wolverines. The graduate transfer threw two interceptions to just one touchdown and 175 passing yards. It just was not the Howard that we had seen across the course of the season.
“My ability to push this team and to lead this team in this game is going to be crucial and I know that. And I think that if we can maintain that edge that we had in that Indiana game and just come out there. I need to be the one that sparks that. I need to make sure that I'm bringing that all game.”
Chip Kelly said on Monday that the offense just wasn’t what it needed to be against Michigan and even admitted it was on the coaches. That must change to beat the Vols and Howard has to have a good game.
Ohio State hasn’t won it all in a decade and they have fallen short a ton lately. Howard wants this to be the team that gets it done. The road they must take is not going to be an easy one.
