It didn’t surprise anyone that former Oklahoma Sooners starting quarterback Jackson Arnold hit the transfer portal following the regular season. However, his landing spot has now added an extra wrinkle to the 2025 season for the Sooners.

Arnold is heading to Auburn and will compete to be the Tigers’ starter in 2025, and likely will be. Hayes Fawcett of On3 was the first to announce the move that Arnold would be staying in the SEC.

The Sooners host the Tigers on Sept. 20 of next season and it will be a day that is now a return trip for Arnold.

Arnold very well could be the bridge quarterback for Auburn until highly touted 2025 recruit Deuce Knight is ready to take over as the starter. It isn’t out of possibility that Auburn is done adding at the position either, as Arnold stands as the only player with much experience in that room now.

At Oklahoma, Arnold played in 17 games over the last two seasons. In 2024, Arnold completed 63 percent of his passes for 1,421 yards, 12 touchdowns, and three interceptions. The Sooners’ passing offense struggled all season and it is one area that Oklahoma has to improve on in 2025.

Arnold’s biggest game came in a late-season win over Alabama where he ran for 131 yards on 25 attempts. On the season, Arnold had 444 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The 2024 season didn’t go as planned for anyone in Norman with a 6-6 regular season record.

Coming out of high school in the class of 2023, Arnold was a five-star quarterback but Auburn was not one of his offers. Now, the talented quarterback has a chance to lead Hugh Freeze’s team for the 2025 season and gets a fresh start in a new program.
