The Oklahoma Sooners are losing players left and right to the transfer portal. They aren't losing the most players in the SEC, but they are losing a lot nonetheless, and some of the players they are losing are players that could really help them in 2025. Not all of them are, though.
As the official 2025 offseason starts to get closer, it's becoming more and more obvious that this team will have a lot of work to do in terms of building up a good roster. And, they especially have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball.
Before the transfer portal even opened and we knew or didn't know who would transfer, it was pretty clear that the offensive line and the wide receiver positions would need some help. And, now that we see all the players from both of those positions transferring, it's even more clear.
Sooners WR J.J. Hester enters the transfer portal
Especially on Tuesday, when one of the Sooners' more productive skill players entered the portal, at somewhat of a shock. According to several reports, most notably On3, J.J. Hester is entering the portal.
Hester, the Tulsa native, transferred to Oklahoma from Missouri. Hester transferred to Oklahoma in 2022 but faced significant challenges due to injuries. His first season was cut short after three games due to a broken foot. In 2023, he missed much of the season due to another injury, only playing in the last five games without recording any receptions.
In 2024, he finished with 14 receptions for 315 yards and one touchdown. Notable performances included a 60-yard touchdown against Auburn and a 90-yard touchdown against Maine. He was one of their more productive players in a terrible season.
Oklahoma Sooners have another domino fall with starter entering the transfer portal
The Sooners were likely going to look for replacements anyways.
