As we all expected, the Ohio State Buckeyes have fallen in the latest update of the College Football Playoff rankings.
Ohio State’s loss to Michigan was a stinger that no one in Columbus expected to happen for a fourth straight time. As a result, Ohio State is now ranked No. 6 in the College Football Playoff after previously being No. 2.
If the postseason were to begin today, the Buckeyes would play the Tennessee Volunteers in the first round.
Ryan Day has now lost four straight games to Michigan and the pressure is on for the Buckeyes to perform in the College Football Playoff. After losing to Michigan and not reaching the playoff last season, Ohio State really needed to beat the Wolverines this season. That did not happen, but thanks to the expanded format Ohio State is going to have a shot to win their first National Championship since 2014.
Ohio State spent a ton of money on a loaded roster and a first-round exit in the postseason would be a bad return on their investment. The Buckeyes did not go out and get Caleb Downs, Quinshon Judkins, and Will Howard to lose multiple games.
With 12 seeds set to have a chance at winning the National Championship, it is going to be the toughest title to win yet. A first-round bye would have helped Ohio State, but they missed out on the chance to play in the Big Ten Championship when they lost to Michigan.
The final edition of the College Football Playoff will take place next Sunday following the conclusion of conference championship games.
