The No. 8 SMU Mustangs have the chance to make history this Saturday as they head to Charlotte for an ACC Championship clash against the No. 17 Clemson Tigers. A victory for the Mustangs or Tigers would not only secure an unexpected conference title in their inaugural ACC season but also guarantee them a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Of course, the Clemson Tigers are determined to claim their 9th ACC Championship and secure their own place in the CFP. Despite a setback against South Carolina last week, the Tigers can still reach the 12-team playoff field by clinching the conference title.

While a loss wouldn’t eliminate the Mustangs from playoff contention, they are eager to secure that guaranteed spot. SMU is currently riding a nine-game winning streak since Kevin Jennings took over as the starting quarterback.

This will mark the Mustangs'—and Jennings'—second consecutive appearance in a conference title game.

Last season, Jennings made his first career start in the AAC Championship game after Preston Stone suffered a season-ending injury the week prior.
