Rivalry Week did not go as anyone expected for the Ohio State Buckeyes and they took a 13-10 loss to the Michigan Wolverines. Ohio State has now lost four straight games against Michigan and sits at 10-2 on the season.

This may have been the most disappointing game of the Ryan Day era. Ohio State was a three-score favorite over the Wolverines and no one really had Michigan having a chance in this one.

Ohio State’s offense struggled all game and never gave the Buckeyes a real chance. The result of the game had former Ohio State star Michael Thomas calling out the offensive playcaller.

“That’s terrible who in they rabbit a** mind decided Chip Kelly was an upgrade man. We spanked that same offense in the natty,” Thomas said on X.

Thomas has been very outspoken about his former teams whether it is the Buckeyes or New Orleans Saints in the NFL. Thomas fondly remembers Ohio State beating Oregon and Marcus Mariota Oregon in the National Championship back in 2014. However, Kelly was not on the Oregon coaching staff that season.

The former Ohio State wide receiver played in Columbus from 2012 to 2015. Thomas recorded over 1,600 yards and became a second-round pick to the Saints.

Ohio State hired Kelly last offseason after originally bringing in Bill O’Brien to be the offensive coordinator. O’Brien ended up taking the job as the head coach at Boston College and Kelly left UCLA to run the offense in Columbus.

This is the first season that Day has given up playcalling. Ohio State’s offense has been good all season but took a massive step back against the Wolverines. A week after beating Indiana, the Buckeyes took a terrible loss to Michigan.

Will Howard had his worst game as a Buckeye by completing 17-of-33 passes for 179 yards and two interceptions. Howard has one passing touchdown. Ohio State’s run game was led by Quinshon Judkins with 46 yards on 12 runs. The Buckeyes were outrushed by a 172-77 margin. Typically in this game, whoever wins the rushing battle, wins.

Ohio State still has the College Football Playoff in front of them, but there is no chance of a Big Ten Championship. It was officially a disaster weekend for Ohio State.
