When Ohio State returns from their bye week on Saturday to play Nebraska, they will be going up against quarterback Dylan Raiola, who was once a five-star Buckeye commitment in high school.
After giving his commitment to three schools in total, Raiola landed with Nebraska and has done some good things for them this season.
Saturday will mark the first and likely not the last time that Raiola will play Ryan Day and Ohio State.
“I have a lot of respect for their program and what Coach Day does,” Raiola said via Husker Online. “But I’m happy where I am at today. It’ll be fun to go back and kind of be on the other side – if you want to say – and see some guys after the game. It will be a cool atmosphere to go into.”
Raiola committed to Ohio State in May of 2022 and decommitted that December. The Nebraska quarterback committed to Georgia the following May, before signing with Nebraska in December of 2023.
Nebraska is 5-2 on the season but coming off of an ugly, ugly loss to the Indiana Hoosiers. The Cornhuskers were beat down 56-7 in that game and it was an outcome that surprised most.
So far during his freshman campaign, Raiola is completing 66 percent of his passes for 1,592 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions. Raiola’s best game came against Illinois when he threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns in an overtime loss.
“When it comes to Dylan (Raiola), I think he’s got an opportunity to be a great player,” Ryan Day recently said via Eleven Warriors. “I think he’s already playing at a high level. He’s got a lot of talent, and he’s got a great family.”
Ohio State is labeled as -25.5 point favorites against the Cornhuskers on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if Raiola can keep his team close against a team that he was once set to play for.
