The 2024 College Football Season just passed its midway point and the College Football Playoff is somehow just around the corner. Recruiting isn't always on the forefront of mind this time of year, but when an elite five star defensive recruit gets set to commit that's worth the attention of college football fans everywhere.
Elijah Griffin, DL Savannah Christian Prep High School
Five star defensive tackle recruit Elijah Griffin, the number one overall defensive tackle, the top recruit in all of Georgia, and a consensus top five player in the nation has announced that he will be committing on Friday of this week. Many believed–as mentioned in the On3 Sports' video post below–that Griffin might make his announcement last weekend, but he kept us all waiting.
Elijah Griffin has long been considered a five star defensive line talent earning Top 10 player status in the country well over two years ago. Griffin stands at 6'5", nearly 300 pounds already in high school. Wherever he chooses to go there's a real chance he sees significant snaps right away given his immense potential.
Griffin tallied nearly 100 tackles and 20 sacks a junior in high school, and is right back at it this fall, well on his way to posting 50 career sacks before even getting to college. But which school will he actually choose?
Which School Will Win Elijah Griffin?
Elijah Griffin's finalists are apparently Georgia, Miami, and USC. As mentioned earlier, many recruiting experts thought he would simply commit last weekend on his visit with Kirby Smart and Georgia, but that didn't end up being the case. However, Georgia still likely holds a firm lead in Griffin's recruitment. The Bulldogs have hosted him for double digit official/unofficial visits and well-documented live event points of contact. No other school comes close.
Mario Cristobol and Miami have put up a strong 2024 campaign this year and have been firmly entrenched in this recruitment for some time, so they might be a close second. USC, on the other hand, still has significant defensive issues this season and just lost their best defensive lineman to his own redshirt decision (Bear Alexander).
Expect Kirby Smart to land yet another elite five star defensive lineman this week on his way to the number one overall recruiting class in 2025.
