Ohio State moved to 5-0 on the college football season with an impressive win at home over Iowa.
The Buckeyes handled the Hawkeyes by a score of 35-7 and put together the performance you would want on both sides of the football.
One thing that Ohio State did that stands out right away was handle Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson. Johnson came into the matchup averaging 171 rushing yards a game and the Buckeyes held him to 86 rushing yards. It was not until garbage time that Johnson got loose for a 28 yard touchdown and was able to find some success against the Buckeyes’ defense.
Earlier in the week, Johnson said that he would not have went to Ohio State, even if they had offered him as an Ohio kid. Coming into Saturday, Johnson had games of 206, 187, 173, and 119 rushing yards this season.
“Even if they would’ve offered me, I wouldn’t have like went because I feel like I want to beat them,” said Johnson.
Well, Johnson wasn’t able to accomplish that goal and the Buckeyes looked to have taken offense to what he said. The defense's response in this game says it all and they were keyed in on stopping him all game long. In the first half, Johnson was held to just 2.4 yards per carry and 19 yards on the ground.
Ohio State did not offer Johnson out of high school, a three-star recruit out of Southern Ohio. Day talked about him earlier in the week.
“He's developed into a really good football player. We can't sign everybody. We're proud of guys that leave the state and do well, and he’s playing really good football right now."
Ohio State held Iowa to 225 total yards and the Hawkeyes had just 115 yards on the ground. An impressive showing for the Buckeyes a week before a huge matchup with Oregon.
