The Georgia Bulldogs had just beaten the Auburn Tigers 31-13 and head coach Kirby Smart was in the middle of his postgame press conference when No. 1 Alabama fell to Vanderbilt 40-35.
Naturally, Smart was informed and then asked about his reaction to Vandy's thrilling upset.
"I think Vandy's got a great program and does a great job," Smart said. "I mean, it's a lot of other people that don't respect Vandy. I respect Clark Lea. I respect his team, his quarterback. What they've done. They beat Virginia Tech. I mean, somebody told me that six of eight games were decided by one score or less in our league. Nothing shocks me about our league. So, Texas A&M, Missouri — Welcome to the SEC. It's hard every week, and I got a feeling it's not going to stop. It's consistency and performance, and when you ride the wave of emotion, you get caught on the bottom of the wave sometimes. We're just trying to do this, just trying to keep getting better and keep getting better."
The Bulldogs are now 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in SEC play after losing to Alabama last week and barely beating the Kentucky Wildcats in Week 4.
Next up on the Dawgs' schedule is another home SEC matchup against Mississippi State.
