The Oklahoma Sooners have dealt with more injuries than you can count. Not really, but, it certainly feels like it. I'm not sure there is any SEC team with more injuries or more significant injuries than what the Sooners have. Now, most of the time when injuries are talked about with this team, they start the conversation with the offense, and that's really where all of the attention goes.
And, rightfully so, as the offense has had to overcome some pretty unbearable and unfortunate circumstances, like missing your top-five wide receivers last game.
But, the defense has certainly had some injuries as well, some crucial ones, too. Let's start with the easy and obvious ones like the Kendal Dolby injury, where he will likely be done for the year, and was playing a very high level of football. Woodi Washington has been pretty banged up, and Dasan McCullough has missed time as well.
But, the Sooners should be getting reinforcements back soon on that side of the ball, as head coach Brent Venables explained on Tuesday during his media availability.
“He’s going to have a role," Venables said in regards to defender Dasan McCullough. "He’s been practicing for a few weeks now… He gives us another playmaker in a key position… How big of a role? That remains to be seen. I'm excited with where he's at right now."
McCullough has been out with a toe injury and has really been missed by this Sooners defense that has made do without him. But, the Sooners will need all they can get on Saturday against a Texas Longhorns team that is the best team in the country.
Luckily for them, it sounds like he will be back, we just aren't quite sure what capacity yet, what he will be doing, or how much he will be playing. That's great news for a defense that has been thriving already.
