Ohio State took care of business in Week 11 when they defeated Purdue by a score of 45-0. However, there were plenty of waves made across the rest of the college football landscape last week.

In the second update of the College Football Playoff rankings, the Buckeyes are staying at No. 2. The Big Ten has Oregon, Penn State, and Indiana currently in the College Football Playoff as well.

If the season were to end today, the Buckeyes would host No. 12 Boise State in the first round of the playoff.

Despite being the No. 2 ranked team, the Buckeyes do not currently have a bye due to Oregon being No. 1. If the Buckeyes can get to the Big Ten Championship and defeat Oregon in their second matchup, then Ohio State would lock up a first-round bye.

Next up for Ohio State is a trip to Wrigley Field in Chicago where they will take on the Northwestern Wildcats. It is likely the last game of the season where Ohio State will be able to heavily rotate in their depth, so they must take full advantage of doing so. The teams that play in the National Championship this season will have to play in more games than we have ever seen a team play.

After Northwestern, the Buckeyes will host a currently undefeated Indiana team. Indiana hasn’t had a tough test yet this season and their closest game was last week against Michigan where they squeaked out a 20-15 win.

Falling short has been a common theme for the Buckeyes the last couple of seasons. It is something that they want to avoid and is the reason that many draft-eligible players decided to return to Columbus for this season.

Ohio State is in a great spot currently in the College Football Playoff rankings. The only thing they can do is take it a week at a time and continue to stack wins. As we get deeper into November, the stakes are going to get higher and higher with each game.
