The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the greatest football players to ever play the game on their team. Patrick Mahomes is not just the best player in the world right now, or the best quarterback in the world right now, but he has quickly made his way to the top, to where, now, the only guy you can argue is better than him all time is Tom Brady and Jerry Rice.
And, who else do you know that is as famous a football player right now, besides Travis Kelce, his teammate who is dating a global superstar Taylor Swift? Mahomes himself is a global superstar, not nearly as big as Swift, but pretty big. There is a reason Adidas decided to hurry and sign Mahomes to a shoe deal as quickly as they did.
Now, they are reaping the benefits. Mahomes has done similar things to Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and others who have their own brand within a brand, like Jordan Brand, who is under Nike, LeBron Brand under Nike, Curry Brand under Under Armour, etc.
The Mahomes Brand is under Adidas, and the three-stripe brand is making sure they take advantage of that, as they should. But, now Mahomes, with his very own brand, is doing and has done what no other football player has, and it's for his alma mater.
I mean, who can say that they have their own jersey at their former school with their own logo on every single one?
Texas Tech's newest uniforms are branded under the Mahomes brand. So, instead of there being a giant Adidas logo on the shoulder like on every other uniform, there is a Mahomes logo.
"The time I had at Texas Tech, it helped me grow up," Mahomes said. "We had great seasons, we had bad seasons, but the people were always there. They would push you to be great every day, whether that was on the field or off of it. I'm unveiling the Mahomes Brand as part of Adidas to pair with Texas Tech.
"The new uniform is amazing. It's cool to see how they used the history of Texas Tech, and then the future. I thought it was a huge honor for Adidas to take my logo and put it on a jersey that I played in. You can go to a lot of different places to play sports… but to go somewhere where you're part of a family, I think that's what makes Lubbock so special."
Every uniform only has one logo on it, so the jersey couldn't have both the Adidas logo and the Mahomes logo. So, for them to put just Mahomes' logo on there means a lot, and I'm not sure any football player has ever had that happen. Mahomes is just a different dude when it comes to his off-the-field success.
The Chiefs play the Denver Broncos on Sunday before they play the Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers and then the Las Vegas Raiders.
