The Oklahoma Sooners have made a bowl game in 25 straight seasons, the second-longest streak among active teams in college football.
However, that is in jeopardy after Saturday's brutal loss to the Missouri Tigers. The Sooners were thoroughly embarrassed in that game, 30-23, and lost due to an abysmal late fumble by quarterback Jackson Arnold.
This was their chance to clinch a bowl game and go into a bye week with some momentum before they closed out their season. I wrote before the game that this was the most important game of the year for that reason.
Now, they enter a bye week thoroughly defeated and dejected and are at risk of losing their historic streak.

After the bye week, they welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide to Norman for the final home game of the season. Alabama just smoked the LSU Tigers 42-13 and will be looking to cement their spot in the College Football Playoff race. They have one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football in Jalen Milroe, and Oklahoma doesn't have the offense to keep up.
The following week, Oklahoma has to travel to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers for their final game of the season.
While quarterback Garrett Nussmeier did get hurt against Alabama, Oklahoma just lost to the Drew Pyne-led Missouri Tigers. Would anyone pick them to win on the road against LSU? Doubtful.
Oklahoma needs the momentum that a bowl game would bring. Even if it's one of the lowest prestige bowls they could make, the team needs some sort of positive momentum to take out of this abysmal season. They need the bowl game practices for the young players on the roster to take a step forward in development.
Instead, they're on the cusp of ending the season on a six-game losing streak in conference play. Remarkable.
