In a recent article from National College Football Recruiting Analyst Steve Wiltfong of On3, he had reported that Notre Dame was working diligently to get 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight back on campus for their game against Louisville on September 28th. That day has become a jockeying point between two programs, with Auburn trying to finalize an official visit that day for Knight to see the Tigers take on the Oklahoma Sooners.

As Wiltfong reported, that was a date that had been discussed between Knight and both programs. According to a source, the Lucedale (Miss.) George County star has indeed finalized that official visit to Auburn for that weekend. Barring some unforeseen circumstances, he will not be making his return to South Bend.

Once Knight does make that official visit to Auburn, Notre Dame will consider him uncommitted, per their rule regarding taking official visits to other programs. That should, in theory (unless the rule changes), be the end of the saga. It felt like only a matter of time until this move did happen, but Knight has continuously delayed the decision. While it doesn’t mean he will pull the trigger to Auburn that day, it would obviously point strongly to it.

You have to give the Notre Dame staff a lot of credit in this recruitment regardless of how it might end. For well over a month, it appeared that this was a layup for Auburn, but they didn’t go down easy. The Irish continued to stay in the race, and made things very interesting. They have given Knight and his family a lot to think about.

We will see how things end, but it does appear that Knight is going to stay in the Southeast. The 6-5, 205-pound quarterback has been a pillar for the Notre Dame 2025 recruiting class for a long time now, ever since committing last September. If he does follow through and take that official visit, the Irish staff will be left with trying to pick up the pieces and find a new quarterback.

There was an original expectation that Knight was going to make a move early in the month of August, but he ended up delaying his process. From there, August 31st was most often mentioned. Then he went two straight weeks visiting Auburn, but never pulled the trigger and a lot were very surprised about that, including those in the Auburn program.

While the Auburn staff has been patient waiting for a move, it appears things are going to wrap up potentially in a couple of weeks. This has been an extremely turbulent recruitment with a lot of twists and turns. Something tells me this won’t be the last we hear of Knight, even after that trip at the end of the month.
