USC Transfer Korey Foreman Earns High Praise
The Fresno State Bulldogs made a significant offseason acquisition by securing Korey Foreman, a former 5-Star recruit and defensive end transfer from USC. During the Mountain West Media Days on Thursday, head coach Jeff Tedford offered his highest praise yet for the recent addition.
Tedford was astonished by Foreman's outstanding performance in a spring practice session, likening him to a Pro Football Hall of Famer and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
"There was one practice where he had like three sacks, two picks and one was one-handed," Tedford said on the Mountain West Network. "I went into the defensive room and asked, 'Who let Lawrence Taylor on the field?' That's what he looked like."
Foreman emerged as a highly touted 5-Star recruit, securing the No. 3 spot in the 2021 recruiting class on 247Sports with a perfect 100 rating. When he entered the transfer portal with two seasons left to play, he was considered a 4-Star prospect in 2024. According to 247Sports, he was among the Top 100 transfers and ranked as the 11th-best edge rusher nationwide in the portal.
As the Bulldogs headed into spring, they adopted a "prove-it" mindset regarding Foreman. Tedford mentioned that during his recruitment discussion with the former 5-Star recruit, the focus was more on understanding Foreman's goals rather than persuading him to commit to the team.
Tedford remarked, "Coming in, I had some questions for Korey, actually. 'Are you still motivated to play? The word is you're injured a lot.' Things like that. I was very honest with him. There was nothing but honesty, it wasn't a big sales pitch. It was, 'You can be really successful here,' and he did everything in the spring to prove that.'"
Foreman didn't fully live up to expectations during his three-year tenure at USC, managing to accumulate 24 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one interception over his freshman and sophomore years. In 2023, he opted for a redshirt year before entering the transfer portal.
Should Foreman achieve his anticipated potential, his addition could position Fresno State as having one of the premier defensive end pairs within the Group of 5. Devo Bridges, a seasoned sixth-year defensive end who recently earned a spot on the Preseason Football All-Mountain West Team, is teaming up with Foreman. Last year, Bridges impressed with 51 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and an interception, earning the title of the Bulldogs' 2022 LA Bowl Defensive MVP.
