After taking a visit over the weekend, four-star QB and former SMU commit Keelon Russell is headed to Tuscaloosa

It marks a huge win for the University and HC Kalen DeBoer.

Russell headed to T-Town

"They did a terrific job with (the trip)," Russell told Bama247 on Sunday afternoon. "The players and the recruits were just terrific. The coaches were terrific. Just building relationships with everybody was just amazing…

…""Me and [QB] coach [Nick] Sheridan have hopped on the film," Russell said before his trip. "We connected. When you feel like there is a possibility of you going somewhere, it was that feeling. When I was on a zoom call with him, we were watching film, he was breaking it down and he was saying 'man, you are going to be a perfect fit in our offense.' I already know that the development key is going to be perfect. I already know that the relationship that I have built with the whole coaching staff is going to be perfect. I already know like everything is great, so it is just one of those things where I keep my eyes open for sure."

Sheridan was a huge factor in the Tide's ability to flip Russell, as was HC Kalen DeBoer. After seeing what DeBoer was able to accomplish in such a little amount of time with a player like Michael Penix, it's clear that he and the Crimson Tide will be enticing for signal callers.

Following the commitment, Alabama now has the eighth-best recruiting class for 2025, but more importantly, they scored their potential signal caller of the future.

The 6-3, 175-pound passer from Duncanville, Texas is the No. 7 ranked quarterback in the country, has led Duncanville to consecutive Texas 6A D-1 state titles, and completed 72% of his passes for 3,8423 yards with 38 touchdowns and three interceptions as a junior.

Previously having zero QB commits for the 2025 class, it was going to take a near miracle or trip to the transfer portal for DeBoer to find his next QB to compete with freshman Ty Simpson if and when Jalen Milroe heads for the NFL after the upcoming year.

Either way, the pickup is huge for the first-year HC of Alabama and it helps him prove that he and the Tide are going to continue to make a footprint in highly contested recruiting grounds.
