New Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey wore the jersey number 84 at Georgia, but he'll be among the players taking the field with a new number in the NFL.

When he recently spoke with the media on the subject, it was revealed that there wasn't any significant meaning behind his college number, 84. Now, he'll be going back to No. 15, which he wore earlier in his career.

“When I grew up, that was my number.” McConkey said. “Every time when I was little, highschool, middle school, I wore it. And then I went to Georgia and got 84. I told coach Harbaugh that 84 wasn’t my choice, but I feel like I made it my own. Now I wanted to go back to 15.”

McConkey is expected to give an immediate boost to the Chargers offense, impressing throughout his college career and in the pre-draft process with his consistent reliability, versatility, short-area burst speed, route-running technique, athleticism and elusiveness, in addition to what he brings to the table intangibly.

He finished out his time at Georgia with 119 receptions for 1,687 yards with 14 touchdowns over three seasons.

How well the No. 34 overall pick performs this season will be something to keep an eye on.
