Ole Miss has been hot on the recruiting trails of late, but Lane Kiffin and the Rebels just missed out on premier four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez out of Kissimmee, Fla.
Melendez has been committed to the University of Miami since December but after an official visit to Ole Miss two weeks ago, it appeared as if the Rebels had made up some serious ground.
Melendez announced that his visit to Miami this weekend would be his last, and it's now clear why that is. On Sunday, Melendez tweeted out his top-four which featured Ole Miss, Miami, Oklahoma and Auburn. But just a few hours later that tweet was deleted and Melendez announced that he's "1000% a Miami Hurricane."
It's not the end of the world for Ole Miss as the Rebels have already secured a commitment from 2025 four-star linebacker Jarcoby Hopson from Horn Lake, MS. Pairing Melendez with Hopson would have been a dream for defensive coordinator and Melendez's primary recruiter Pete Golding, but Ole Miss will bounce back.
According to On3's rankings, Ole Miss' 2025 class currently ranks No. 16 in the country and ninth in the SEC. The Rebels already have a collection of five four-stars and will look to add more as the summer rolls on.
