NFL rumors that Kirk Cousins is heading to play for the Atlanta Falcons have heated up over the last few days reporters may have taken it too far.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday where he said he's heard that Cousins and Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts have been in touch" on who will wear No. 8 for Atlanta next fall.

"There's [been] an effort [by Cousins] to look [in Atlanta] for, maybe, schools for the kids [and a] house for the family," Florio said. "And I haven't confirmed this part yet, but it's just one of those little things that makes sense. [Cousins has talked] to the guy who currently wears No. 8, Kyle Pitts, about getting No. 8 before any of this stuff is done."

While the Falcons may be trying to get Cousins to come to Atlanta, the second part of what Florio said is far from true.

Pitts replied to the segment on X with a bunch of laughing faces and wrote, "This is actually is funny you guys come up with anything."

Cousins currently wears No. 8 for the Minnesota Vikings and wore the same number for most of his time in Washington, but if he joins the Falcons, he will have to fight Pitts for that jersey.

The Falcons can "officially" begin negotiating with Cousins and the Vikings on March 11.
