The Atlanta Falcons released tight end Jonnu Smith last week, but it didn't take him long to find a new home.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Smith agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Miami Dolphins on Thursday.
Schefter added to his report that the Dolphins have been "hoping a tight end can help elevate their offense in 2024."
The signing comes by no surprise considering the Dolphins met with Smith on Tuesday to negotiate a deal.
Smith originally joined the Falcons via trade with the New England Patriots last March.
In exchange for Smith, Atlanta sent a seventh-round draft pick to New England.
He saw action in all 17 games with six starts for the Falcons in 2023, catching a career-high 50 targets for 582 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
The Falcons saved $6.5 million towards the salary cap by releasing Smith.
He joins an NFL team in dire need of a quality tight end as the Dolphins were the only club that didn't have a catch from a tight end last season.
Since Smith was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, he has reeled 219 receptions for 2,423 yards and 20 touchdowns.
