The Michigan Wolverines have had quite the run in quarterback recruiting recently. After flipping five-star passer Bryce Underwood from LSU in the 2025 class, they managed to also gain a commitment from California star Brady Smiegel in 2026. That is an impressive two-year stretch for head coach Sherrone Moore at the position.

In the 2027 recruiting class, there are two talented signal callers who are beginning to separate themselves for Michigan according to Rivals vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong. The first one is Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy star Peter Bourque. Despite a lot of buzz around Penn State for Bourque the last few months, Wiltfong likes the Wolverines for Bourque right now.

“I have Michigan leading this thing going into the fall,” Wiltfong said. “Penn State is still very much in play, a recent offer from Georgia’s is intriguing. Bourque wants to visit all three this fall.”

The 6-4, 190-pound passer currently ranks as the No. 75 overall player and No. 6 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247 Sports Composite ranking. As a sophomore, Bourque threw for 1,737 yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games, while adding another 317 yards and four scores on the ground, and throwing just three interceptions.

The other quarterback to know for the Wolverines is Benton (La.) High School signal caller Malachi Zeigler. Michigan has also been making quite an impression on the Louisiana native recently. They are trending quickly.

“He’s a young man that’s as coveted as any passer in the country,” Wiltfong said of Zeigler. “He also camped at Michigan this summer, did a fantastic job and shot up the Wolverines’ board, earned his offer from coach Moore, Lindsey and company. He too might be nearing a college decision. SMU’s in there among other programs that’ve done a good job with Zeigler. He sees a great fit for himself at Michigan.”

There is some speculation that Zeigler could be making a college decision sometime in the near future. That quarterback spot in the 2027 class for Michigan could be coming down to whoever wants to commit first. As of today, it appears Zeigler has the intention of making that decision before Bourque.

At 6-2 and 209 pounds, Zeigler is a very intriguing dual threat option at quarterback. During his sophomore season in 2024, he managed to throw for 997 yards and six touchdowns, while also rushing for 555 yards and six more scores as a runner. Zeigler is expecting a huge jump as a junior as the full time starter.

Despite that low production, Zeigler is well thought of by various recruiting platforms. He currently ranks as the No. 156 overall player and No. 12 quarterback for the 2027 recruiting class on the 247 Sports Composite ranking.

Either quarterback would be a nice addition for the Michigan 2027 class. That is especially true following up the two-year stretch of Underwood and Smiegel.
