Kirk Herbstreit’s hot mic was the real winner of UNC opener after Bill Belichick’s college coaching debut
Adding some extra excitement to Bill Belichick’s collegiate debut.
Bill Belichick’s college coaching debut was not what anyone expected as the University of North Carolina lost embarrassingly to TCU. And while there was a lot to talk about from the game itself, there was one moment off camera that led to a lot of speculation.
ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit had many thinking he said the North Carolina team was “bad” during a hot mic moment. And it specifically caught on after this moment went viral on Barstool Sports, which has over 6.7 million followers on X.
Kirk Herbstreit Sets The Record Straight
But soon after this started to go viral, Herbstreit set the record straight, immediately responding to the post.
“Must be a slow night..not sure why this is so confusing. I said “YOU’RE bad” to my spotter Deron for something funny he said when we were just coming back on air,” Herbstreit wrote.
“Instead of making up things I said how bout giving Rece, Holly, and I some love for getting through that game-those games are by far the toughest games you announcers have to call,” he stated in another post right after.
Tony Granieri, who is also a spotter for ESPN, came to Herbstreit’s defense.
“I was standing 3 feet to his right in that booth,” Granieri wrote. “100% accurate. He said ‘you’re bad.’”
