Former Oregon Duck 5-star recruit who was suspended by Dan Lanning finds new home
Former five star receiver Jurrion Dickey finds new home away from the Oregon Ducks program.
When Oregon signed wide receiver Jurrion Dickey in the 2023 class, the Ducks believed they had landed one of the most dynamic offensive weapons in the nation. A consensus five-star prospect and top-30 national recruit, Dickey arrived in Eugene with heavy expectations and plenty of fan excitement.
Two seasons later, his time with the Ducks has ended unexpectedly. In August, head coach Dan Lanning suspended Dickey for violating team standards — issues tied to punctuality and respect — and he is no longer with the program and has officially transferred to Diablo Valley College in California.
“There are some pieces of that where I felt like he needed a break from us and we needed a break from that so we could focus on what’s in front of us right now,” Lanning said. “Wishing him nothing but the best, as far as success, and want to see him get back to where he can be a contributor somewhere. That might be here. That might be somewhere else.”
On the field, Dickey’s Oregon career never got off the ground. He appeared sparingly, recording just two receptions for 14 yards across two years. Off the field, the discipline concerns proved to be the turning point in his departure.
The move closes the book for the Ducks on a once-promising addition to the wide receiver room. Oregon has continued to build depth and production at the position through high school recruiting and the transfer portal, softening the impact of Dickey’s exit. Still, it marks a reminder of how unpredictable even the most highly rated recruits can be.
As Dickey resets his career at the junior college level, Oregon’s focus remains on the receivers currently in the fold — players who have bought into Lanning’s culture of accountability and performance. For Duck fans, Dickey’s story may go down as one of the more surprising “what-ifs” in recent recruiting history.
