Notre Dame football predicted to land Top-100 defender with some of the most versatility in the entire 2027 recruiting class
Notre Dame football is fresh off a huge recruiting weekend against the Texas A&M Aggies. They have put themselves in position to land versatile defensive back.
Head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame football suffered a tough loss to the Texas A&M Aggies over the weekend, but those couple of days in South Bend were anything but a complete failure. The Fighting Irish staff held their biggest recruiting weekend of the year, and had over 70 talented recruits from the 2027 and 2028 classes on campus. Even with the defeat, there were a lot of positive vibes when the weekend concluded.
We are already seeing the fruits of that labor revealed this week. Steve Wiltfong, the director of recruiting over at Rivals, has logged an expert prediction for the Irish to land 2027 Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel defensive back Tavares Harrington. The talented defender was in South Bend for the visit, and it appears that Notre Dame made a huge impact, enough for Wiltfong to put in the prediction shortly after the event concluded.
For the 2027 recruiting class, it is going to be extremely important for the Irish staff to keep some of the top talent from Chicago to stay at home. On top of Harrington, Notre Dame is also pursuing his teammate, Top-5o wide receiver Quentin Burrell, as well as Brother Rice defensive tackle Brayden Parks, and Saint Joseph (Ill.) Ogden offensive tackle Cameron Wagner. Making an impact in Chicagoland is going to be mightily important for that cycle.
Landing Harrington would be a great step in making their impact in their home base. He is a tremendous player and would be a tremendous early addition.
Harrington is currently rated as a top-100 recruit by several of the major recruiting platforms. According to the 247 Sports Composite ranking, the Chicago native is pegged as the No. 99 overall player and No. 11 cornerback in the 2027 recruiting class. That ranking also has Harrington sitting as the No. 5 player in the state of Illinois.
It shouldn’t be overly shocking that a long list of impressive suitors has been pursuing Harrington thus far. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Miami, Auburn, Nebraska, Missouri, Washington, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Kansas State, Arizona State, Vanderbilt, UCLA, Louisville, UNC, Illinois, Iowa State, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Maryland, Kansas, Cincinnati, Northwestern, and Purdue among others.
At 6-3 and 175 pounds, Harrington is an outstanding athlete who has the talent to play either cornerback or safety on the college level. Adding this type of versatility is massive for a well-balanced secondary class overall. Mike Mickens has shown that he values length to a high degree on the back end, and that is something that Harrington possesses a lot of.
