Packers get injury update on rising star that’s worrying, though it could have been far worse for Green Bay
Tucker Kraft is a huge part of the offense.
The Green Bay Packers received a worrisome update on Thursday. Tight end Tucker Kraft, who’s been the primary receiving option for the offense this season, suffered a knee injury during practice ahead of Week 3’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
However, things could have been worse for sure. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it’s not expected to be a long-term issue.
It’s unclear what the injury is and he will be added to the injury report, but there isn’t any indication of how much time Kraft will miss.
UPDATE: Tests came back clean.
Tucker Kraft key stats
> Tucker Kraft leads the NFL among tight ends in PFF receiving grade (90.1).
> Kraft had 10 receptions for 141 yards in the first two games of the season.
> Jordan Love has had a perfect passer rating while targeting Kraft.
Concern
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that Kraft is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury. It’s not expected to be a season-ending type of injury.
The Packers have handled more injuries to start the season, especially on offense. Wide receiver Christian Watson is still recovering from his ACL injury, and Jayden Reed broke his collarbone against the Washington Commanders last week.
Tight end depth
Without Tucker Kraft, the Packers still have three options in the tight end room. The primary one would be Luke Musgrave, a second-round pick with impactful receiving abilities. Beyond him, Green Bay has John FitzPatrick and Ben Sims. Former Tennessee Titan Josh Whyle, a fifth-round pick in 2023, is on the practice squad.
Tucker Kraft was a third-round pick in 2023. After having a smaller role as a rookie, he broke out last year with 50 receptions for 707 yards and seven touchdowns. This year, he had been an even bigger part of the offense—and it’s a big concern for how the team will operate with so many injuries piling up.
