The Florida State Seminoles have lost three straight games now, and this one comes on head coach Mike Norvell’s birthday, as a birthday present that he gave himself. That’s because no one is more to blame overall than Norvell. Losing three straight after the promising start to the season is a birthday present he gave to himself that he didn’t ask for.

“Too many mistakes,” Norvell said at the start of his press conference after the loss to Pitt. “We had our opportunities, found ourselves in situations to be able to capitalize, found ourselves in challenging spots throughout the game. We didn’t do enough to overcome the negative. That’s [Pitt] a good enough team that if you put yourself in those situations, they can take advantage of it. For three straight weeks, we have been finishing games with a one-possession loss. Ultimately, it all falls on our shoulders.”

Seminoles fans are fed up, and Norvell knows it

When Norvell was asked about the fans being frustrated, he noted that they should be frustrated, but no one was more frustrated than he is. And, he’s 0-8 in his last eight ACC games, so he should be frustrated, especially losing his eighth straight on his birthday.

This program has some amazing things going on, like their recruiting, where they are well-positioned to have a top-10 class in 2027 after what looks to be a top-15 class in 2026. The new renovations that the stadium got are amazing, and a ton of the other facilities on campus are getting upgraded big time. There is a lot of money being put into this program, and the fans feel like it’s being wasted with losses that shouldn’t be happening.

There is no reason they should have lost to Virginia, especially in the way they lost. The Miami loss is okay because they are the real deal, and that’s a rivalry game that can go either way. This Pitt game, against a true freshman QB in his second-ever start, was inexcusable, especially being that it was at home. This Pitt loss is one that could change everything.

The Seminoles are in line to have possibly another long season like the one they had last season. It may not be as bad, but who knows at this point? If it starts trending that way, we could see Norvell without a job.
