Lions DC Kelvin Sheppard talks about the possibilty of being the next LSU head coach for the first time
Is Sheppard interested in the job?
It’s been an interesting week in the Detroit Lions’ world. Ever since LSU fired Brian Kelly last Saturday, there’s been a lot of talk about Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard.
Earlier in the week, there were a lot of high-ranking alumni and fans calling for the Tigers to hire Sheppard. Then, Sheppard took to Instagram and started liking a bunch of posts about him being the next LSU head coach. This naturally drove Lions fans nuts.
The whole time, we maintained that just because there’s interest, that doesn’t mean Sheppard will take the job or even an interview. We also talked about how he is expected to get asked about it in his pressure on Thursday. That happened. Here’s what he had to say:
Kelvin Sheppard talks about the LSU HC job for the first time since Kelly’s firing
Sheppard said that at this time, LSU has not contacted him, but that he has been keeping tabs on what’s happening with the school since it’s his alma mater and the school that, he says, made him.
He even said that if you were to cut him open, you’d see that he’s a Liger. Half Lion and half Tiger. He really said that.
There you go. As we’ve been saying the whole time, just because there’s interest doesn’t mean that Sheppard will take the job, consider an interview, or that the school is looking to hire him. At no point did he say he didn’t want it. It’s still pretty early on in the process. Anything can change, but as of right now, Lions fans can sleep soundly tonight.
