Alabama fans need to be rooting for shocking SEC teams to win on bye week to help lock in a spot in the College Football Playoff
Here’s who the Crimson Tide should be rooting for on Saturday.
It’s hard to believe, but Week 10 of the college football season is here. The Alabama Crimson Tide are idle, getting a week of rest before facing a new-look LSU Tigers. But the slate, especially in the SEC, is one that Alabama will be watching closely.
So with that in mind, here is a rooting guide for Alabama. Three games and outcomes that all fans of the Crimson Tide should be hoping for.
Georgia vs. Florida
The Florida Gators are playing in the first game post-Billy Napier, and it just so happens to come at the event known as the world’s largest outdoor cocktail party. It goes without saying that Alabama fans should be rooting for the Gators to knock off the Georgia Bulldogs.
Alabama is the only loss on Georgia’s resume, and the Bulldogs sit third in the SEC standings. Seeing UGA fall would reduce the likelihood of seeing Alabama play Georgia in the SEC championship and certainly in the CFP.
Texas vs. Vanderbilt
Arch Manning is trending towards playing for the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, which would contribute to keeping Texas as the favorite. For Alabama’s purposes, given what the team did to Vanderbilt earlier in the season, the result shouldn’t make a huge difference to them. Still, I believe a Texas win favors Alabama in the long run.
Texas has already lost two games, and if you’re Alabama, the more highly ranked teams that fall, the better its chances of earning a first-round bye.
Oklahoma vs. Tennessee
We saved the best for last because this matchup between the 14th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers and 18th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners is essentially a College Football Playoff elimination game. The loser will have three losses on the season and likely kiss the postseason goodbye.
For Alabama, they already beat Tennessee, and they play Oklahoma on Nov. 15. Because of that, I would have to say that, as much as the Alabama faithful might hate it, you have to be on the side of the Vols in this one.
