Speculation and rumors continue to swirl around whether Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin will stay with the Rebels or jump to another SEC program.
Kiffin has ties to Florida and has been heavily mentioned as the Gators’ ideal target. For a moment, LSU’s head coach opening seemed like a wrench in Florida’s process, but even Nick Saban said the Tigers are trailing peers with their organization’s build.
Kiffin has been a star head coach and prospect since the late 2000s. He’s had only one losing season in 14 years in college, and while his time with the Oakland Raiders was a bust, Kiffin can claim a lot more than most of his peers in terms of football lessons learned and accomplishments. Now, Kiffin is deciding whether to continue building at Ole Miss or jump to a program with more history.
His response to an SEC Network and ESPN report gave all the clarity that Ole Miss fans needed about Kiffin’s intentions moving forward.
Lane Kiffin shows Ole Miss love amongst Florida and LSU HC search rumors
ESPN’s Marty Smith provided a detailed two-minute report on the latest regarding Kiffin’s decision-making process. While LSU deals with a mess of an administrative setup and Florida struggles to pitch anything but the Steve Spurrier connection to Kiffin, Ole Miss looks like a permanent home for him.
“He has found himself in Oxford, Mississippi. He has found peace. He has found the best version of himself,” Smith said. Kiffin retweeted and quoted the video, saying, “Love you @MartySmithESPN like a brother.”
Kiffin has been at Ole Miss longer than any other program or franchise. With a 52-19 record over six seasons, including three seasons with at least 10 wins and heading toward a fourth, Ole Miss has become an excellent program. Kiffin has molded the football identity in the way he wants and has established himself as one of the premier personalities and coaches in the country.
