Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin is the hottest name among college football programs currently searching for a new head coach.

Kiffin, who is in his sixth season as the head coach in Oxford, is 29-5 at Ole Miss since the beginning of the 2023 season.

Florida, LSU, Penn State, and pretty much any program with an opening has Kiffin near the top of their list.

Kiffin, however, could choose to stay at Ole Miss instead of starting over at a new program.

On3’s Chris Low joined WNML’s Josh and Swain on Thursday and he shared the latest on where this year’s already wild coaching cycle currently stands.

Low said he thinks it’s more likely than not that Kiffin leaves Ole Miss for another job this winter.

“I think with Lane, probably there’s a better chance that he leaves than stays at Ole Miss,” said Low. “I’m not going to rule out, though, that he stays. Is it LSU, is it Arkansas if he does indeed leave? LSU, if you didn’t have some of the buffoonery going on there right now, is the best job. I think it’s one of the best two or three jobs in America — I’m on record of saying that.

“But in this situation, with his ties and allegiance to his ex-wife, and his dad having coached in Tampa Bay, and his reverence for Steve Spurrier, maybe Florida would be the leader of the clubhouse for him. I’m not ruling out that he would go to LSU, though. Because I know how much him and the people who are advising him think of that job. I’ll say this about Lane — it’s a good time to be Lane Kiffin right now, because you’re at a place that spent a ton of money for you to win. They’ve invested in him, they’ve been good to him. If he stays, his world is still gonna be great. And then he’s got two of the top seven or eight jobs in America who want him and are gonna pay him a lot of money to come if he does decide to come. So he’s in pretty good shape.”

Kiffin’s ex wife, Layla, graduated from Florida. Her dad, John Reaves, played football at Florida and spent five seasons on Steve Spurrier’s coaching staff in Gainesville (1990 to 1994). So there are certainly plenty of connections to the Gators for the Kiffin family.

We’ll see what happens. This coaching cycle is shaping up to the be one of the wildest of all time — making predictions on who will land where seems pointless.

And anyway, I’m not sure even Kiffin knows yet what he’s going to do this winter — his focus right now is on getting Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff and winning the national championship.
