What Lane Kiffin’s family visit to Baton Rouge means for Ole Miss and fans who want this head coach drama to end
Lane Kiffin’s wife Layla Kiffin flies to Baton Rouge thanks to LSU Tigers, but that’s really just part of the due diligence process.
Ole Miss fans, the players, and the university have to be tired of it all at this point, but more drama emerged in the Lane Kiffin possibly leaving saga on Monday.
What began as a message board board frenzy, tracking flights online, turned into an actual real verified news story. Some fans noticed that there was a flight from Baton Rouge to Oxford, then back to Baton Rouge on Monday. Who was on that flight? Not Lane Kiffin, but it was his ex-wife Layla who was apparently touring the city on Monday.
LSU sends plane to pick up Lane Kiffin’s family members to tour Baton Rouge
For those out of the loop on Lane Kiffin’s personal situation, he and his wife Layla divorced nearly a decade ago, but have since gotten back together. Layla was just reportedly in Gainesville as well and it seems the Kiffins are doing their due diligence when it comes to considering any changes for their professional and personal futures.
It was confirmed on Wednesday by Wilson Alexander (in post below, among other sources) that the LSU Tigers did indeed send the plane to pick up members of Lane Kiffin’s family so that they could tour Baton Rouge. This doesn’t mean that Kiffin is headed to coach for LSU, but it certainly doesn’t put Ole Miss fans at ease.
Kiffin has largely shut down any talks of his leaving when asked about the possibility of leaving Ole Miss, but at the same time he hasn’t signed a contract and has given some odd answers to questions when it comes to the Rebels program and his future there. So, what does a flight to Baton Rouge for some of Kiffin’s family mean?
Like anyone else, Kiffin isn’t taking this massive life decision lightly. Fans, of course, want Kiffin to just simply say emphatically, “Yes, I’m staying!”, right when they want him to. Unfortunately, that’s just not how things go when there are millions of dollars and the futures of dozens if not hundreds of players and Ole Miss staff at stake. Kiffin is just doing what everyone should do when they’re faced with a tough decision. Consider every option and get as much information as possible. And that’s the reality of it.

Lane Kiffin doesn’t sound like he’s going anywhere following huge Ole Miss Rebels victory over Florida Gators
Lane Kiffin makes it clear he wasn’t even thinking about all the off-field drama or Florida’ head coach vacancy amid Ole Miss win over the Gators.
Kiffin has everything he needs to win a national title at Ole Miss. He has a family that has expressed they love it in Oxford. Kiffin has said the same. It may be that it’s still highly likely that Kiffin decides to remain the head coach at Ole Miss, but right now he’s obviously just making sure he and his family do all the necessary research to help them make the best decision. That might sound selfish to fans and media, but it’s what every good father and man does; look out for what’s best for his family.
So yes, a flight took some of Kiffin’s family to Baton Rouge today. That’s okay. That probably won’t be anywhere near the end of this either. The thing is, that flight doesn’t mean that he’s going anywhere. It’s just part o the process. Ole Miss fans just need to hope and pray that in the end Kiffin decides to stay. The Rebels might not absolutely need him now that he and the university have built a sustainable monster of a program together, but the brightest future certainly looks like one that includes Lane Kiffin.
