The Florida Gators have been strongly pursuing the services of Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin, and it appears they have some competition. According to Wilson Alexander of The Advocate, LSU Tigers officials have arranged for several of Kiffin’s family to be picked up by a private place for a tour of Baton Rouge.

That is a new development for Kiffin, but it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise either. The LSU Tigers are the biggest threat to the Gators, as they have arguably as good of a job as there is in Gainesville. This is the next step in seeing what Kiffin wants to do.

LSU Tigers emerge as a serious candidate for Lane Kiffin

Over the weekend, Kiffin did not do a good job of calming down the outside noise. He didn’t take the opportunity to shut it down, and he didn’t.

“I love what we’re doing here. Today was awesome. To even talk about it right now would be so disrespectful to our players and what they did today,” said Kiffin. “I love it here at Ole Miss.”

This isn’t much of a surprise for two reasons: Kiffin is seriously considering leaving, and he loves having the attention. Who doesn’t love this is Ole Miss, as they are reportedly seeking an answer from Kiffin on what he wants to do, and sources told On3 Sports they want clarity before the end of the regular season.

Sources have told On3 that Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter is seeking an answer from Kiffin about his future ahead of Egg Bowl game week. Kiffin has become the most popular name in this coaching carousel, with LSU and Florida courting him as their top target.

That tells you everything about Kiffin’s intentions. The Gators have been linked incredibly heavy to Kiffin, and there is real reason to believe he will go to Gainesville. The visits to both cities is important, as Kiffin’s made it clear how much family matters in this entire discussion.

Saturday night brought us news that 1010XL’s Dan Hicken and Jeff Prosser believe that Kiffin is going to Gainesville.

“We’re not going to sit here and tell you Kiffin is coming to Gainesville, but all indications to me, and I’ll let you speak for yourself [Prosser], are that Kiffin is coming to Gainesville,” said Hicken. “They have agreed to everything, and I hear [the announcement] is after the Egg Bowl.”

The Egg Bowl appears to be the deciding deadline, as Brett McMurphy reported that the Rebels would need to decide if they would allow Kiffin to coach in the College Football Playoff. Strap in for a wild ride.
