The Michigan Wolverines receive brutal news ahead of must-win matchup against Ohio State Buckeyes
The Michigan Wolverines could be down two captains in Max Bredeson and Rod Moore against the Ohio State Buckeyes
The Michigan Wolverines are gearing up for the most important game of their season. In a matchup simply known as “The Game”, they are aiming to play spoiler against the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
A win would put the Wolverines in the College Football Playoff as well as keep their chances of playing for the Big Ten Championship open, something that didn’t seem possible just a few weeks ago. However, they are going to have to overcome two significant blows to the team that Sherrone Moore announced today.
Team captains will miss The Game for Wolverines
Against Maryland, the Michigan Wolverines suffered a brutal sting of a loss during the game. Tight end/fullback Max Bredeson, a team captain, was spotted in a boot and crutches during the game. According to head coach Sherrone Moore, Bredeson’s x-rays “didn’t look great” and he appears like he will miss The Game this weekend.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, safety Rod Moore will also miss the Buckeyes this weekend. Moore, who has made countless plays against the Buckeyes in his career, has missed several games this season and hasn’t been 100% ever since returning from an injury suffered last offseason. Reportedly, Moore will seek a redshirt, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed.
These injuries are on top of a season-ending injury to star running back Justice Haynes and injuries to backup running back Jordan Marshall that kept him out of last week’s game. Over 20 different Wolverines have suffered injuries this season, though they are getting healthier heading into The Game.
There is, of course, still a path forward for the Wolverines to pull off the upset in this game. In a game like this against a team like Ohio State, however, you need all hands on deck, and losing experienced team captains who have played in this rivalry often is a brutal blow to this team. They’ve been getting strong play from the youngsters on the roster, but they’ll need to take it up several more notches to earn a win on Saturday.
