Brent Venables sends a strong message after finding out the Oklahoma Sooners will be hosting a playoff game
Brent Venables and the Sooners will be ready to play their playoff game against Alabama.
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the first round of the College Football Playoff at home in Norman, Oklahoma. Many don’t believe that the Sooners have what it takes to play postseason football. Many believe that they can’t host a great playoff atmosphere. Head coach Brent Venables set the record straight after finding out his team was the No. 8 seed.
“Sooner Nation is gonna be ready, Rece. You don’t gotta worry about them,” Venables told Rece Davis on ESPN.
Oklahoma is not the team that many others think it is. To find that out, all you have to do is ask Alabama.
Oklahoma Sooners are not an easy out in the CFP
“I know a lot of teams were hoping to play Oklahoma. Our team believes we have everything we need to [win a championship],” Venables said on a Zoom call with the media after the CFP rankings were announced. “It’s going to be electric.”
What’s the old saying? Defense wins championships. That’s a sentence that is said all of the time. However, in this era of college football and even the NFL, it feels like the offensive side of the ball has been the producer of wins more times than the defense. The Sooners have the best defense in the country, a defense that can single-handedly win them games.
Venables is making sure everyone knows that his team is not one that people should want to play. Sure, the offense is shaky, but they will have had two weeks off to figure it out and game plan for Alabama on that side of the ball. So, right now, anything is possible for what we could see there.
Sooners fans will show up and show out in Norman on December 19, Friday, at 7 p.m. CT.
