ESPN is going out of its way to make Oklahoma Sooners fans happy before playing playoff game against Alabama
The Sooners are going to be on ESPN College Gameday on Friday, December 19.
Everyone loves a bit of positive national attention, right? When it comes to the football team you root for, and the city you live in or love, I’m not sure anyone would not want positive national attention. Norman, Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Sooners are sure to get that very soon, with the football program in the College Football Playoff and hosting a game.
Oklahoma plays the Alabama Crimson Tide, whom they beat on the road just a few weeks ago. That game wasn’t an ESPN College GameDay game, but this next one will be. ESPN is going out of its way to make Norman, Oklahoma, a College GameDay location on Friday, before heading to another location the next day.
ESPN College GameDay may have picked the perfect game to have the Sooners on
Usually, when ESPN College GameDay features your team on their Saturday morning show, they highlight the city they’re in and show how strong the fan base is. For the Sooners, they have one of the best fan bases in all of sports, and they will surely show up and show out on Friday.
“Sooner Nation is gonna be ready, Rece. You don’t gotta worry about them,” Venables told Rece Davis on ESPN.
This is the perfect game for ESPN to have College GameDay on. It’s two of the biggest brands in all of college football facing off in a rematch of a game that was very close before. The Sooners seem like a Cinderella story, but also a team people dislike because some feel they aren’t good enough to be in the postseason.
“I know a lot of teams were hoping to play Oklahoma. Our team believes we have everything we need to [win a championship],” Venables said on a Zoom call with the media after the CFP rankings were announced. “It’s going to be electric.”
College GameDay in Norman, Oklahoma, will be a blast. Now, it’s all about finding out who will be the celebrity guest picker.
