The LSU Tigers are the favorites for one of the most highly coveted 2027 safety recruits in the nation.

2027 four-star safety Davion Jones told On3 this week that LSU, for now, stands alone at the top of his list.

A big reason why that’s the case is because the environment in Baton Rouge is “different”.

“It’s hard to explain,” said Jones to On3 of what makes LSU different. “LSU is one of those places that you have to go see. It’s different from seeing it on video and watching it on TV. When you’re in the stadium, it’s really electrifying.”

Jones, 5-foot-11/165 pounds from Charlotte, NC, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 12 safety in the nation and the No. 5 player in the state of North Carolina.

LSU is facing some tough competition for Davion Jones

The Tigers may be at the top of the list for Jones, but there are a couple of other SEC programs that are hanging around in this battle.

Tennessee and South Carolina, specifically, are programs that are still in the mix for Jones.

Auburn could also get into the mix as former Vols defensive coordinator Tim Banks is recruiting Jones to the Plains (Banks was hired as Auburn’s co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach after getting let go by Tennessee earlier this month).

Jones is planning to commit by July 15.
