The Oklahoma Sooners could be close to landing an elite linebacker in the 2027 class. Michael Griffin, the West Charlotte (N.C.) three-star linebacker, holds offers from nearly 20 schools. Oklahoma is one of the schools that’s made an early impression on Griffin, and they have some blue-blood competition.

“I love Oklahoma,” Griffin told Rivals. “They’ve been a good program, and their defense is still making plays… I love their defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.”

Griffin is a three-star, but we know how Oklahoma is with three stars, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. If head coach Brent Venables offers a three-star linebacker, defensive lineman, or defensive back, he’s much better than a three-star nine times out of ten.

Many of the Sooners’ star players from this last season were three stars, like Taylor Wein and Courtland Guillory.

There is only one issue: Oklahoma has some mighty competition for Griffin.

Griffin also likes two other blue-blood schools that are standing out to him

“I like everything about it [Florida State Seminoles], including the culture and the players,” Griffin said. “I love coach Mike Norvell. I feel like he’s great for the program, and I feel that they’re going to be back next year… Michigan is a defensive program. They’ve always been good, and I want to get up there and see what they’re about.”

Oklahoma is bringing in three linebackers in the 2026 class in Kristan Moore, Beau Jandreau, and Jacob Curry. All guys can play this upcoming season and even have a role on the team. As for the 2027 class, Oklahoma has yet to land a linebacker.

Securing Griffin would be a major boost for Oklahoma’s defense, especially since they haven’t yet landed a linebacker for the 2027 class. Adding Griffin would continue to reinforce the team’s recruiting momentum.
