Florida Gators have the inside track to land Cam Coleman in the transfer portal, thanks to Jon Sumrall
Cam Coleman entering the transfer portal was a surprise, but the Florida Gators have a secret weapon to make it happen.
Surprising news came out on Monday morning when reports surfaced that Auburn Tigers wide receiver Cam Coleman was planning to enter the transfer portal.
Upon entering, Coleman becomes one of the top players in the transfer portal. He will also be among the most expensive.
Cam Coleman will be expensive in the transfer portal
While Coleman’s services will be available to anyone, they won’t come cheap. Sources tell A to Z Sports that Coleman entering the portal was not expected from the Auburn side, and his asking price is $2.5 million, which is starting quarterback money. It’s a lot of money for Coleman, who is repped by David Mulugheta of Athletes First, but he’s the best wide receiver in college football outside of Jeremiah Smith.
That price makes a lot of sense when you consider Smith’s NIL value per On3 Sports is at $4.2 million, but it’s still a lot of money to pay for a non-quarterback with the new cap coming in.
Florida Gators have the inside track to landing Cam Coleman
The Gators have something that nobody else does: wide receivers coach Marcus Davis. He was Coleman’s recruiter at Auburn and wide receivers coach for both seasons. The Gators hired Davis earlier this month to the same position.
Sources also tell A to Z Sports that Coleman will likely follow Davis to Gainesville. With DJ Lagway entering the transfer portal, the Gators have a lot of money freed up, and it could go right to Coleman. Having him paired with the trio of freshman wide receivers, Vernell Brown III, and (possibly) Dallas Wilson, would be an elite group for head coach Jon Sumrall to work with in year one. This could also mean losing Wilson, as they are the same type of receiver and will both be expensive.
Texas A&M Aggies are already pursuing Cam Coleman
On the other end of the spectrum, A to Z Sports’ AJ Schulte reported on Monday that the Texas A&M Aggies are already in hot pursuit of Coleman.
“Per sources, the Aggies are already in hot pursuit of adding Coleman to the team. Coleman, a player with potential to be a top-five selection in the 2027 NFL Draft, would be an immediate contributor for the Aggies. A&M hasn’t had a player close to his caliber since Mike Evans in the early 2010s. That’s the kind of impact player he can be right away.
“The Aggies have already inked wide receiver Mario Craver to the “largest deal in program history“. However, by all reports, Coleman would already be ahead of that price point. A to Z is reporting that the starting point for Coleman is a deal worth roughly $2.5 million, a deal that likely tops what Craver received from the Aggies.”
A lot can change before the transfer portal opens, but one thing is for sure. Coleman will be pursued heavily.
