The Ohio State Buckeyes are now into the offseason after ending their season with a loss in the Cotton Bowl to the Miami Hurricanes.

Much of the focus for the Buckeyes has to be on the transfer portal that will open up on Friday. Ohio State has already had several players make it clear they’re entering the portal. It’s been all forth for the Buckeyes that are set to depart. With the portal opening, Ohio State will also be looking to add to its roster.

Buckeyes could soon be making a splash transfer portal addition

Ohio State has been the school mentioned most with Penn State DE Chaz Coleman, who is set to be the top defender in the transfer portal. Coleman is an Ohio native who spent his freshman season at Penn State and is now set to hit the portal on Friday.

Lettermen Row’s Alex Glietman has predicted that the Buckeyes will be signing Coleman out of the transfer portal. It was also reported by Rivals that Coleman could be visiting Columbus as soon as Friday. That would be a huge win for the Buckeyes after their season ended in disappointing fashion.

Other schools out there are Tennessee and Virginia Tech which have been mentioned for Coleman. Coleman was a four-star player out of Warren (OH) and a top-300 recruit in the class of 2025. Ohio State offered Coleman very late, and he ended up signing with Penn State.

While Coleman’s stats of eight tackles (three for a loss, and one sack don’t exactly jump off the table, it’s about the flashes he showed. Coleman was expected to be the next great Penn State pass rusher.

Ohio State is losing Caden Curry to the NFL and Kenyatta Jackson very well could follow. CJ Hicks, Logan George, and Dominic Kirks are three defensive ends who have already decided to hit the transfer portal. The Buckeyes’ top returning players at this moment at EDGE are Beau Atkinson and current freshman Zion Grady. Ohio State is expected to add in the transfer portal at defensive end and defensive tackle.

It’s going to take a big payday to land Coleman out of the portal and it should be a commitment that the Buckeyes are comfortable making. The 6-4, 246-pound defensive end has future star written all over him and he could end up the next great pass rusher out of Columbus when all is said and done if the Buckeyes land him.
